Where do we stay? The Business Trip

It would seem close to treason to all that travel should be to include the business trip as a possible source of travel pleasure. Most of us who travel for business do not use it to further our travel dreams. Most business trips are done with no time to breath, no restraint on food expenses and you stay at block hotels of no character.

Hotel websites typically show you the bed. Not sure why, most hotels can do this right. The real things that separate great business hotels from the average are elsewhere. Here are the eight things a business hotel should do right, but seldom does.

1. Soundproof walls
2. Big towels and more than one big towel.
3. A thermostat so temperature can be regulated without manual intervention.
4. High speed Internet access that works.
5. A quiet heater and/or air conditioning system.
6. A daily paper delivered to the room.
7. Breakfast that includes some healthy options.
8. More than twelve channels on the cable system.

Is there any possibility for beauty and travel joy in a business trip. I think so. There are islands of attractiveness in even the standard hotels.

If business people use business travel for any thing pleasurable, they use it for food: using expense accounts to explore new restaurants. But there other possibilities. Each city has its own pleasures and things to explore. Taking an extra night on the trip, taking an evening during the trip provide opportunities to explore.
